the band has been released through Pleitegeier Records in Germany. 'Reel, Folk'n'Rock'n'Roll'
was given a European launch at Christmas Rock Night in Ennepetal, Germany
in December 2001, to a wonderful crowd who showed their apparent liking
of the new material by dancing their way throughout the entire set, and
thanks go to each and every one who were at the show and who gave us yet
another great show to remember. If you like your Folk Rock
music with a punk edge ... you'll love this ! As far as we are aware the record
company are distributing the album throughout Germany at the moment, but for
further information, we suggest you contact them at http://www.plietegeier.com New Album Update 2 Alas completeing the new album
took longer than anticipated, but we can reveal that the finished article has
been delivered to PLeitegier Records in Germany for pressing. Samples of the
new record will be up on this site for all to hear very soon. Confirmation of the band playing
at Christmas Rock
Night, in Ennepetal, Germany has just been passed so if you want to sample
the new material live at what will surely be the new album European Launch date,
come along to CRN 2001 ........... and bring your jiggin' shoes. Line-up
change The Electrics began 2001 on a
new and interesting journey. With the departing of Kenny MacNicol and David
Lyon from the line-up, a new member was brought on board, Jim Devlin. 'New' is probably not the best
description of Jim since he has played with the band on numerous occasions in
years gone by, but has now joined the fold on a permanent basis and has contributed
greatly to the faster ... (yes, faster !!) and more rocky sound of the Electrics. Jim has taken over mandolin,
guitar and backing vocal duties within the band, and is also sharing songwriting
with Sam Horner. Jims talents are adding greatly to the Electrics sound. The new album has been recorded
over the last few weeks and is now in the possession of the producer, Phil Madiera,
in Nashville for ongoing recording work from guest artists. Fans of The Electrics music will
not be disappointed with this new offering. The folk/rock sound is still paramount
in the Electrics music, but this time it's faster !!! Rough mixes of the tracks have
been played to selective critics for feedback, with extremely positive comments
ranging from "fantastic" to "you people need treatment"
being returned. However, you guys out there in
the world who buy our albums are the ultimate critics, and we'll have to wait
patiently for the album release and for your comments ! We hope you like it as much as
we do ! :)
The latest album is called "Old New Borrowed and Green" and is available from Tame Your Tongue Productions/Records.The band recorded and produced the album themselves in Horner’s "Ted’s Place" studio.
It is a step further towards a much harder and punkier sound but also has ALL the elements that make up the fine mix that is an Electrics album. There are classic tracks on this album that stand up beside other bands’ best-loved songs of the last 15 years, and the reviews have all been absolutely fantastic.
From the wild rock n roll of "17 Bottles of Porter" to the lilting ballad "As Long As I Get To Keep You" (featuring a particularly raspy-voiced Horner), this album has acoustic instrumentals sitting comfortably beside the rock monster that is "The Dark Side of Dunoon".
For fans of the more traditional, there is a classic Electrics-style reworking of "Wild Rover" as well as a fine and heavy version of Rabbie Burns "A Man’s a Man for a That".
It also turned out to be the swansong for another original member, drummer Davie McArthur. Davie’s wife had just given birth to their first child and he felt it was the correct time to give up the drum stool after the album sessions. We wish Davie, Sheila and wee baby Lewis all the very best!
Another long time friend of the band and bandmate of JimmyD’s for many years is the current occupant of the drum stool, Jim "Skinny" Cosgrove. Jim started his rock n roll drum career with Scottish heavy metal band Nightrider many years ago. He went on to play in several bands with JimmyD. In fact, they still play together in three bands.
Jim is an excellent drummer and is currently fulfilling his long time ambitions of touring and recording with the guys. He has already gigged in Holland, Germany and Norway, as well as recording some superb new tracks in Volum Studios in Norway for a planned future release.
We hope you like the long overdue new look and colour scheme of the site, which is courtesy of Miss Angel in Texas.
The Electrics are VERY much alive and kicking and hope to see each and every one of you on our travels around the world soon.
JimmyD (June 2006)
The creation of a new album has been in progress for the the last few months
and is now in the final stages of production.
Fans of The Electrics music will not be disappointed with this new offering.
The folk/rock sound is still paramount in the Electrics music, but this time
it's faster and punkier (yes Punkier) !!!
However, you guys out there in the world who buy our albums are the ultimate
critics, and we'll have to wait patiently for the album release and for your
comments !
We hope you like it as much as we do ! :)
We were originally only gonna be playing at Slabrock on the Saturday, but we
ended up having another gig on the Friday.
I'm very glad we did, because it really was excellent! We had a very nice hotel
too.
A special shout out to the kids with the "The Electrics-We Love You "banner!
I brought it home with me,and its now up on my wall!
The audience were very enthusiastic and danced and partied along with us all
night.
It was just us on the bill that night, but we didnt need any help anyway! Thank
you to everyone who was there for making it a fine gig indeed.
I hope you are all enjoying the cds you bought.
This trip was the first time we have been able to offer the very first Electrics
cd "Visions And Dreams" for sale.
We also now have stocks of the U.S Best Of collection "The Electrics"
which has been unavailable for a few years now.
Grab em while stocks last ok?
Saturday night at Slabrock Festival in Orje was a tremendous gig too.
One of the acts pulled out of the show because she didnt want to fly during
the current war situation,
so it was left to ourselves and Apangello to provide the entertainment.
We got on very well indeed with the lads, and their set was very well recieved
by those in attendance.
They appeared to have the guitars tuned down to B, which is irresponsible in
the extreme!
The guys also began their show dressed in heavy boiler suits for some reason.
Nobody died though, so thats ok!
We followed them onstage to a great reception from the crowd. The gig was great,
and featured some groovy dancing
from the youngsters at the front. They even line danced to a punk rock number, which stunned us to say the least!
Maybe punk and country got mixed up on the way to Norway huh?
We also made it across the border to Sweden for a bout half an hour!
All we did was visit a petrol station and buy loads of chocolate bars called
"PLOPP", cos it made us laugh!! Yes,,we ARE very sad!
We were invited back to a lovely family's house for a meal after the gig. Their
house was beautiful, and so was the food!
We even ended up getting the instruments out and playing some songs for them!
I think they are planning to visit Ireland and Scotland soon, so i'm sure they
will enjoy that.
So all in all,, another wonderful weekend abroad for The Electrics.
We thank you all, cos if it wasn't for all you fans out there we wouldnt have
the opportunity to do the things we do!
Cheers, and keep on ROCKIN !
